The 108th Southie's St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston, the second largest St. Patrick's Day parade in the country, has an average crowd of 850,000 spectators. Marching in the parade are 37 Bands, including 18 Pipes and Drums, from Ireland, Scotland, Canada, New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Florida as well as Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to the parade's Web site at www.southie parade.org.
The parade route begins near the Broadway Bridge, runs down West Broadway to East Broadway, turns onto East Fourth Street and heads back to Dorchester Street, ending at the intersection of Southhampton Street and Dorchester Avenue.
Boston is home to the longest-running St. Patrick's Day celebration in the U.S., beginning in 1737.
